New TATU Teens Ready to Share Their Knowledge
A whole new freshly-trained crop of teens will soon be educating other students in our community about the dangers of tobacco use. Eighty-one teens and 10 adult facilitators attended the American Lung Association of the Northwest’s (ALA-NW) annual Clark County Teens Against Tobacco Use (TATU) training at ESD 112 in November. TATU is the ALA-NW’s peer-based smoking prevention program in which middle and high school students are trained to teach elementary age children about the dangers of tobacco use. During the training, teens learned about the basics of the program, presentation tips, tobacco education and how the media and advertising industries influence youth tobacco use. Attendees were also treated to lunch by Sea Mar Community Health Center. The new TATU teens will now begin working in their schools and communities as peer tobacco prevention teachers.
